2020 Budget Workshops

The 2020 Budget Workshops will be held virtually over Zoom. The workshops are designed to provide information to help cities develop their annual budget. Presentations will include an overview of financial projections and estimates important to city budgets, an update from the Iowa Department of Management, a session covering the basics of using the City Budget Form and another session discussing the impact of COVID-19 on city finances. Registration this year will cost $25, which is half of the normal amount.

Budget Projections and Issues
League staff will facilitate a discussion on financial trends and projections important to your city budget.

Iowa Department of Management Update

An update on changes to the state budget form will be provided along with guidance on the Annual Financial Report, Annual Urban Renewal Report and other city financial reporting. 

Budget Form Basics
Ted Nellesen from the Iowa Department of Management will provide step-by-step instructions on preparing your city’s budget and using the state budget form with plenty of opportunity for questions. With the use of a virtual format, attendees may have their city budget materials open during the session to begin work on the annual budget.

Measuring the Impact
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact municipal governments in a variety of ways, including the annual budget. This session will dig into the short-term impacts to city revenues and expenditures while also projecting what the future may hold.
