Budget Projections and Issues
League staff will lead a discussion on important financial trends and projections that affect the city budget.

Iowa Department of Management Update
An update on changes to the state budget form will be provided along with other important city budget information.

Budget Form Basics
Ted Nellesen with the Iowa Department of Management will provide step-by-step instructions on preparing your city’s budget and using the state budget form with plenty of opportunity for questions. This session will be presented as a hands-on walkthrough of the budget forms and submission process. Relevant example budget documents and a limited number of laptops will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own laptops if they have one available.

Pro Tips: Best Practices for Preparing City Budgets and Fiscal Management
Learn from peers on effective ways to prepare and present the city budget as well as establish strong financial policies to manage the city’s funds. The session will look at materials to use when developing the city budget with staff, working with the city council during budget season and presenting information to the public. Discussion will also focus on financial policies that help protect city funds, including cash management, procurement and purchasing, city investments and more.
