The Iowa Association of Regional Councils (IARC) is the statewide association representing the Councils of Governments (COG’s), Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO’s) and Economic Development Districts (EDD’s) of Iowa. These organizations are formed by counties and cities to serve local governments and citizens in their regions. COG’s are formed through provisions of Chapter 28E, 28H and 28I of the Code of Iowa. They address issues facing local government and provide coordination of service delivery, grant writing and administration, planning, advocacy, technical assistance, and project development. COG’s also serve as forums for regional economic development, and many are EDD’s as designated by the federal Economic Development Administration. MPO’s are designated by the Governor of the State of Iowa to carry out requirements of federal transportation planning and programming in urbanized areas. Give your COG a call today and tap into the resources they provide of intergovernmental cooperation and technical assistance.
