The Iowa League of Cities and the Iowa Municipal Finance Officers Association are co-sponsoring a training to help cities prepare their Annual Financial Report (AFR). The training session will also be presented in cooperation with the Office of Auditor of State.

Chapter 384.22 of the Code of Iowa requires cities to submit an AFR by December 1 for the previous fiscal year. Significant penalties exist if not filed in a timely manner and a failure to submit will prevent a city from levying property taxes and receiving any state funds.

This free training will cover the basics of the AFR (what it is and how the information is used); helpful hints to complete the report; common errors; and where to seek additional assistance. The session will also provide an opportunity for participants to ask questions.

The AFR training will occur from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 4, over the Iowa Communications Network (ICN). The event will originate from Des Moines and will be available at designated ICN locations in Ames, Albia, Dubuque, Elgin, Emmetsburg, Denison, Hampton, Keota, Osage, Red Oak, Reinbeck, Rockwell City, Winfield and Wyoming.
