Update from the Iowa Office of Energy Independence on Energy Provisions

H.R. 1, The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was signed into law by President Obama February 16, 2009. The League continues to research funding opportunities in what is commonly referred to as the Federal Stimulus. Many federal and state agencies have up to 75 days from the bill being signed to produce appropriate program guidance. This space will include the very latest information received by the League.

A considerable portion of the money included in the stimulus bill is divided up and allocated directly to states based on existing or slightly modified federal formulas. The funding stream relies on existing state programs to prioritize projects and allocate resources. In addition to providing direct funding to state programs, the stimulus includes a significant amount of competitive grant funding that is generally coordinated through federal agencies. Many of the competitive grants are open to cities of any size.
