Newspaper Publication Rates

Each June, the director of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services sets the maximum amount a newspaper can charge for the insertion of an official publication during the next fiscal year, as laid out in Iowa Code Section 618.11. An insertion is defined as "8-point type two-inches in length or its equivalent." Rates are established for the first insertion of an item and subsequent insertions.

As of July 1, 2010, the rates are:

  • One insertion = 43.3 cents
  • Each subsequent insertion = 29.4 cents
  • Consumer Price Index Used to set rates = +2.2%, April 2010
The rate was determined by applying the formula specified in Iowa Code Section 618.11, using information from the federal Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.
