FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP

Why should I become an Associate Member?

Public and private entities become associate members of the Iowa League of Cities to show their support of Iowa's local government. Their yearly dues help to offset the cost of League workshops and publications. Associate Membership entitles these organizations to discounts on advertising, exhibiting and event registration. Associate Members also receive complimentary copies of the League's magazine, Cityscape, and the current Directory. But most of all, associate membership helps keep these entities connected to their important customers - cities.

What do Associate Members receive?

  • One copy of current League’s City Directory
  • One subscription of Cityscape, the League magazine
  • 10% display advertising discount in the City Directory, the Annual Conference & Exhibit Guide & full-color Cityscape, the League’s monthly magazine.
  • Discounted rate on exhibit booth and early registration at the League’s Annual Conference & Exhibit
  • Member rates for meetings, workshops, publications and member mailings labels
  • Link to your Web site from Associate Member directory on League Web site (company logo can be added without any additional cost)
  • Free listing in bi-annual City Directory and Annual Conference & Exhibit Guide
  • Free classified ad placements on our Web site and printed in Cityscape

When will my membership become active? What is the process?

After submitting your Associate Member application, it will be reviewed at the next League Executive Board meeting. Upon approval by the board, you will be sent an invoice for the fee. When we receive your payment, your membership will become active. Payment is NOT due until you are approved by the board. NOTE: If you register to become an Associate Member online during conference registration, payment is due at the time you register, and your membership will become active immediately.

What category should my company be listed under?

A list of the different category options can be found on the Associate Member application. Your company will be listed under that category(s) online. In the Directory, you will receive a free listing under your primary category. If you choose more than one category and do not specify your primary category, the League will choose a primary category for you. If after looking at the list and you still aren’t sure which category to choose, you can see the categories other Associate Members chose in the Resources section of the League’s Web site.

How can I change my company description or category?

The primary contact is the ONLY person allowed to make changes to your company’s information. The primary contact can send an email to advertise@iowaleague.org with any updates that need to be made. If you would like to change your primary contact the League needs written documentation from the current primary contact noting the change. Most likely, the primary contact is the person listed on the associate member application.

Where is my Directory and copy of Cityscape?

One copy of the current League’s City Directory should be mailed to you with your invoice after your company is approved by the Board. The directory is published every other spring, following the local elections the previous fall. All current associate members will receive a complimentary copy upon publication.

One subscription of Cityscape, the League’s monthly magazine, will be sent to the primary contact listed on the application. If, for some reason, you are not receiving either of these publications please contact the League at (515) 244-7282

Am I an Associate Member?

If your company’s Web site is listed on the Associate Member directory on League Web site your membership is current.

How do I renew my membership?

Renewals will be automatically invoiced and payment is expected prior to the renewal date to retain continuous associate membership benefits.
